I'm looking forward to the new year - a new start, new intentions and new possibilities. I've been thinking about what I want to achieve in 2010 in terms of creativity. I just finished Stephanie's journalling course, Thought Threads, which was an eye opener for me and something I'd been wanting to do for a while. Journalling daily (or almost daily) is something I really want to continue in the New Year.
I've also thoroughly enjoyed following some of the 365 projects on Flickr and have decided that with all the photos I take, this shouldn't be too much of a challenge to participate with. I love looking at photos and am thinking how interesting it will be to have a snapshot a day to represent us and our life.
This year I discovered the Karenika blog which I am finding full of interesting thoughts and images. She partakes in Creative Therapy which is something I am planning for 2010 - I have my little book of papers (4x6) made up and ready to go. I'm planning to look back on the previous questions and doing some of those as well as the new ones. I've made Sophie one too, as she saw mine and wanted one to do for herself.
I don't want to put pressure on myself, just nudge myself towards finding time to become more creative, and putting it before other things that seem to steal my time.
I have thoroughly enjoyed creating my December Daily - it's almost finished, just needs a few finishing touches and one last page that's in my mind, just not on paper.
So here's to a happy new year, and to making it a great one!
Nine
I can't believe my boy is nine. He came through bright and early - as I knew he would and snuggled for a bit while we waited for Sophie to wake up. She wasn't long behind him thankfully - he was desperate to get into his presents. We gave him a new scooter and he was soooo delighted and couldn't wait to try it out. During the day I asked him how he felt on his birthday to which he replied "I feel 9". I love this kid.
Thankful
I have so much to be thankful for in my life. Yesterday I was thankful for a wonderful healthy family, friends who hosted a delicious Thanksgiving dinner, friends who unexpectedly brought a small gift for everyone and made the kids day, and friends who are good company.
Happy Thanksgiving weekend!

Thought Threads
I started a new online journalling course yesterday. I've been meaning to do this for a while and am so glad I found Stephanie's course. I started with 6 prompts, planning to give 10 mins to each, but once I started writing I couldn't stop and was surprised by the things that were coming out onto the paper. I'm hoping this will be a new daily habit, and that I can incorporate some art into it too, to make an art journal of sorts. I've got a good feeling about this.
Cinnamon Rolls
I went to see Julie and Julia and was so inspired to do something in the kitchen. I decided at night to make scones and prepare cinnamon roll dough for making in the morning for breakfast. I'd read about Molly's cinnamon rolls and they looked easy enough, so I took a deep breath and got started. I was a little nervous about how they would turn out, but I made the scones first and as they went down exceptionally well, I had a boost of confidence. I left the dough in the fridge overnight and got up early to let the dough rise and prepare them for breakfast. They turned out way better than I thought, and more importantly, they were a hit with the kids. I think in future though I'll get up even earlier and make them from scratch in the morning.
Sophie's birthday
Sophie turned 10, May 9th this year. She is delighted to be in 'double-digits'. We had a lovely day at St Edwards park with the Forgrieves then she chose Chinese for her birthday dinner, so we ate at PF Changs in Bellevue - delicious. Sunday was her party with friends at Vertical world. She loves that place. The kids all had a great time, and Sophie especially loved having a 2 day birthday.
It's been a while...
Playing games and baking bread...
It's lovely to have the weekend together with nothing to do and nowhere to go. That'll change next week when Sophie's basketball games start.
Played lots of Sorry again this weekend and also decided to try our hand at making bread. Sophie helped with the ingredients and it smelled delicious as it was baking. Tasted really good too. We only made a very small loaf and decided we need a large one for all 4 of us!

Decided to have pizza for dinner and make our own dough.

Creative Time
Kids started back at school today. Last night it was snowing quite hard, and Euan was keeping his fingers crossed for another snow day!
Felt a little quiet in the house, but I was happy to have some 'me' time and burn off some creative energy. Started a decorated clipboard for myself and an accordian tin album of our Manzanita 2008 memories. Hoping to finish them tonight when all the paint has dried. Feels good to get back into the groove again. Even though I've been doing my December album, it's not been the same without some paint. Looking forward to doing something creative every day.

Happy Birthday to me...
Awakened at around 5.30am this morning by a liitle impish face saying "Happy Birthday". Euan came into bed with us for a couple of hours before Sophie came through.
We headed out early to Deception Pass for the day. We arrived and had lunch in the car before bracing ourselves for the cold. It was a lovely surprise when Calum and the kids started singing Happy Birthday and they had a small cake with them. Delicious.
Enjoyed spending a couple of hours on the beach - even though I had to give Calum one of my socks. He put his foot in the water (accidentally) up to his ankle and his foot was rubbing on his shoes!
Saw our first bald eagles of the year too. A couple of them were flying right overhead. I'm taking it as a good omen for 2009!
Euan found a heart shaped stone and gave it to me for my birthday. Definitely a keeper! We kept finding heart shaped stones after that first one of Euan's. Another good omen I think.
Alki Beach
We decided to bundle up and head over to west Seattle today, to Alki. We love spending time there, walking on the logs and finding treasures on the beach. We stayed for a few hours and collected a few shells and stones.
Euan practiced his party-piece during lunch - rolling his bottom lip inside out to sit on his chin! What a guy!
Afterwards we went to Lincoln park to play on the flying fox and check out the beach there too. Luckily we did. The weather perked up and we found a huge round shell - what a find!
The start of a New Year
A pretty wet start to the year. Spent a lot of time today just playing - mostly Sorry, which has become our favorite game since Christmas.

Spent a lot of time thinking about my word, and realising that maybe I have 3 or 4 that I want to carry with me instead of only one!
Euan makes some fantastic noises when he's not winning - they really are hilarious to listen to. Spent some time with Sophie on her globe jigsaw, which is coming together really well, and the usual couple of times outside playing basketball. A nice easy start to the year.
